Get Him Out!

I'm serious! I am actually pretty comfortable (given the fact that I am 39 weeks pregnant). It was definitely a lot less comfortable with my other babies at this point. So, why is the doctor telling me that I'm going to have a big baby? At my appointment today the doctor did a quick ultrasound to check the amniotic fluid, etc. During the course of the ultrasound he told me that the baby is about 8 1/2 or 9 lbs right now! What? Olivia was my biggest baby and she was 7 lbs 10 oz. He did tell me a few weeks ago when he did a 32 week ultrasound that he was estimating the baby would be about 8 3/4 lbs at the time of delivery, but I was hoping he was wrong. Now I am really kind of freaked out! He doesn't seem worried given that it is my 4th baby, but he's not the one that has to push the kid out! He did say that by looking at me he wouldn't guess I was going to have a big baby, but he did the measurements several times. I don't think I look small by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think I look, and I know I don't feel, any bigger than I did with my other babies. Of all my babies I was the most uncomfortable and big-looking with Annie, who was only 7 lbs 1 oz. Who knows, but I do know that I want this little guy O-U-T, out! Any new self-inducement advice other than the standard Castor oil, sex, jumping up and down bit?P.S. I am due sometime between this Saturday, May 24th, and Monday May 27th. The doctor has given me three different due dates and each time he acts like it is the same date he has always given me. Also, I am about 4 cm dilated and about 50% effaced and the baby is really low, like a 0 station. The doctor said that if I make it to my due date he will induce me as soon as they can get me in.

Oh I'm so sorry! I'm 36.5 and feeling huge too and sooo ready! My doctor thinks I will be delivering early and am supposed to be on partial bedrest. Yeah right with 3 kids! I hope for your sake if the baby is bigger it won't "feel" like it when you deliver. But you know, they could easily be wrong even if they say they are sure. The only way I know that has worked for me is to have your doctor strip your membranes.

oh my! i have heard from multiple sources that something in cooked tomatoes can send you into labor . . . so we turn my final week into an italian food frenzy with pizza and pasta and marinara. yummmeeee! it seemed to work with most of my babies, but this last one didn't cooperate! good luck! i know you have lots of volunteers for help with your sweet girlies and i'm not the closest proximity-wise, but i would love to help any way i can! (btw, i got your sweet thank-you card in the mail and it made my day!)

Traci-

I feel your pain. My biggest was 10 pounds! The only labor helping advice I have is using Evening Primrose Oil. It doesn't induce labor, but it helps soften the cervix which helps you dilate faster and makes it a little easier to push them out. I personally thinks this works well (at least it has for me). Good luck! You'll be in my prayers!

P.S. Depending on your Dr. you can actually have the Evening Primrose oil applied directly to your cervix.

oh woman. I am so excited for you!! It's almost done!! yeah!!

I measured about two weeks bigger than I was supposed to with my last baby and the doctor said she would be about 9 lbs... she was 7lbs 6oz. So... don't stress. They REALLY can't tell how heavy they will be... my littlest one was 6.6 and my biggest was 8.8 and labor felt the exact same... pushing is pushing... :)

I am excited to hear how it goes! good luck woman!! miss you!

btw: this sounds funny... but rubbing your nipples stimulates your uterus... and helps start labor. I did it with my first one and went into labor that night... my last three were three weeks early... so, I didn't get a chance to to it again...

so, take a warm bath and rub away!! :)

Castor oil has been my charm...yuck! however, you were with me 5 years ago when Liz convinced me it was the only way out. It's worked 3 times. If you are already a 4, I bet you go by the weekend for sure!
Good luck!!

I don't have any good advice, just don't stress out. I don't think it will be that big of a baby. Sure will miss seeing him.

You don't look big at all, but, yeah scary to push out a 9 pounder! i would be surprised if he really is that big.
my friend here has a doctor/resident huband and he stripped her membranes and it worked.
good luck! there's so much anxiety at the end of pregnancy.
i'm excited to see the news of the birth. i'll be checking your blog!

I totally utterly completely feel your pain right now Traci. I will hit 38 weeks his Saturday and so I'm going to start trying some natural inducements as well. Here's my game plan:

- Climbing lots of Stairs
- Eating spicy food
- Um, "quality" time with the hubby if you catch my drift LOL

I've also heard that eating fresh pineapple works, drinking red rasberry leaf tea, and also putting a pillow under your knees and kneeling on the floor with your head down towards the floor, and opening up your legs/pelvis...it's supposed to encourage effacement/dialation more. Haven't tried that yet.

Actually I haven't tried any of these yet - I've been too freaked out that they might actually work. Haha. My doctor estimated my baby to be just over 7 lbs right now, and so I'm thinking if I can get him to come early it will prevent me having him in 2 weeks from now and being a 9 pounder.

You seriously do not look like you're carrying a 9 lb baby. I don't know, I think sometimes these doctors are so way off in their measurements its rediculous. Email me or call if you want another cranky/impatient pregnant woman to talk to -haha. 425.753.9641

Congrats! I was at a 4 with Allison and went in for my last check up before my due date and had the Doctor strip my membranes. I had her early the next morning! :) Good luck with everything. I'm excited to hear about your little guy and see pics of him! You look great too!
